Treasures of the Southwest: Hispanidad! featured fine examples of huipiles, traditional garments worn by Indigenous women from central Mexico to Central America. The exhibition also included a beautiful display of charro outfits, and other objects from the Center’s Hispanic collections.
In 2017, the Center of Southwest Studies was awarded a grant from the Henry Luce Foundation’s American Art Program to support the permanent installation of a selection of Southwestern textiles from The Durango Collection® within the Treasures of the Southwest exhibition.
For the first time in its history, the Center dedicated a portion of its gallery space to both the Ben Nighthorse Campbell Gallery and the Treasures exhibitions, enabling the long-term display of these significant collections.
