The Stories We Wear

January 10 – Fall 2023

Tuesday, January 10, 2023

Location: Delaney Library

The Stories We Wear was created by former curatorial fellow Elise Boulanger in partnership with the Fort Lewis College student organization Rising Matriarchs and the Native American Center. The installation honored and remembered Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives (MMIR).

The exhibition consisted of three collaborative works—a ribbon skirt, an atikłuk, and a blanket—made by more than thirty Fort Lewis College students and alumni. The installation debuted in McPherson Chapel alongside the Durango Sexual Assault Services Organization's Sing Our Rivers Red exhibition and a community program featuring three guest speakers.

Following its initial presentation, The Stories We Wear traveled to locations across the Fort Lewis College campus through Fall 2023, extending its message of remembrance, resilience, and community engagement.
