Connections: Earth + Artist A Tribute Art Show in Resistance to Desert Rock

June 22 - September 28, 2008

Sunday, June 22, 2008

In December 2006, Elders, with the assistance of Elouise Brown, established a grassroots resistance camp called Doodá Desert Rock in opposition to a proposed third coal-fired power plant in the Four Corners region. Translated simply, Doodá Desert Rock means “No Desert Rock.” The camp was situated on a desert mesa near the proposed site of the power plant. While the area may have appeared desolate and dry to passing travelers, it contained numerous natural underground springs as well as traditional sacred sites used for prayer and ceremonies.

Curated by Venaya Yazzie, this juried exhibition featured works that united artists with the community in resistance to the Desert Rock project.
