Delaney Library Loan Policy

In order to better connect with and serve our patrons, the Delaney Southwest Research Library and Archives is now circulating select books. This is a well-planned departure from previous library policy, and one that will take some time to implement. Staff and student workers are in the process of evaluating books based on their condition, rarity, and value - both monetary and informational - to determine if circulation is a reasonable option. Many of the rare, valuable, or damaged books will continue to be library use only, but a large number of the library holdings will now be available for check-out. In addition, DVDs, VHS, and CDs are also available for check-out.

Archival collections are not available for check-out. Archival materials are housed in closed storage archives due to their special or rare nature and are brought to the research room upon completion of the Center's Special Collections Request Form and the User Registration Form. Please see the Special Collections Use Policy regarding access and use of the archival collections at the Delaney Library.

Who Can Borrow?

Fort Lewis College students, faculty, and staff, Colorado and Four Corner Region residents (18 years and over), and Durango High School students may borrow materials. All patrons must present a current Fort Lewis ID, Fort Lewis library card, or activated Durango Public Library card in order to check out library materials. Delaney Library is unable to issue patrons Fort Lewis library cards or activate library accounts; Durango Public Library cards can be activated and/or FLC library cards may be obtained at that main campus library (Reed Library) circulation desk.

Delaney Library materials are not available through Inter-Library Loan.

Loan Periods and Renewals

  • All DVDs, videos, and CDs check-out to all patrons for a 2 day period.
  • Books check out for a 7 day period to FLC students..
  • Local patrons and DHS students may check out books for a 3 day period.
  • Faculty and staff may check out books for a 21 day period.
  • Loaned material may be renewed two times on or before the due date.
  • Borrowed material may be renewed in person, by telephone (970-382-6982), or online, by logging in to your library account.

Fines and Lost Materials

If Delaney materials are not returned on time, a $5 late fee is charged. Delaney Library cannot accept fine payments. Patrons must go to Reed Library or the cashier's office to pay fines. Checkout of new material is not allowed until fines are paid.

Items not returned will be billed at $150 (or more) and unpaid accounts will be sent to Collections. The Delaney Library will accept the return of or replacement (with approval of the Librarian) of items up until an account is sent to Collections. However, once an account has been sent to Collections, refunds will not be made for returned "lost/replacement" items. Past due accounts are sent to Collections at the end of every semester. If payment has been made to Delaney Library for a lost item prior to being sent to Collections and a patron later finds the item, refunds may be made for up to six months. It is the responsibility of the patron to notify the Delaney Library when a Lost and Paid book is returned. Patrons may also be held responsible for payment to repair damaged items.
