These are George Kelly's photographic views of natural features and other details in various places of the Southwest, especially in the Four Corners region - the only portion of the United States where four states (Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico) converge.

Arrangement note: The Center retained the creator's original order of these slides, which is basically chronological.
Acquisition information: This slide collection was donated to the College/Foundation by George W. Kelly of Durango, Colorado.
Processing information: Item-level data entry and re-housing of all of the slides in inert plastic sleeves in 2000 was by Center of Southwest Studies student archival assistants. For the sake of brevity in the online presentation, the following item list of images does not contain all of the detailed information that the Center has recorded in a Microsoft Access database to describe the content of these slides. This guide was produced (including editing of the data) by Todd Ellison, Certified Archivist, Center of Southwest Studies, in December of 2007.
The Center has not yet digitized any of these transparencies, but can do that as requested. (The Center's scanning station includes a Super Coolscan 4000 high-resolution slide scanner.) Biographical note
George Kelly, who was 93 in 1987, was a distinguished horticulturalist and amateur botanist. He wrote a dozen books about the plants and trees of the Rocky Mountain region, and raised more than 300 species of roses at his home in Cortez, Colorado.
