P 056: Durango, Colorado, from the slopes of Smelter Mountain, circa late summer of 1881 |

A view of two men (prospectors?) on the hillside (still vegetated at that time)
above the smelter, looking north across the Animas River toward the city of
Durango, Colorado, with the La Plata mountains in the background. The
depot was completed circa January of 1882, so this was probably the late summer
or early fall of 1881, several months after the train reached Durango.
