Notes: Photo of two Native American men standing outside of a church building, with a young boy in the background. The back of this photoprint is labeled Mescalero. The man on the left (without a jacket) is Wendell Chino, former chairman of the Mescalero Apache. On his left is Solon Sombrero, a chief. Behind them is Chino's son Mark. Professor Hetzel remarked concerning this photo, "Sombrero, he was old enough to remember Geronimo. And here the boy stands with him, playing with a jet plane. In three generations, quite a contrast!" As president of the Mescalero Apache Nation and the National Congress of American Indians, Wendell Chino strengthened his people's self-determination.
