Title: | Kiva in San Ildefonso Pueblo, home of potter Maria Martinez
Date/circa: | 1939/1949
Photographer: | Ellison, Eddie Boyden (Santa Fe, N.M.)
Subjects: | Indians of North America--Rites and ceremonies--Photographs;
Notes: | Image of a round kiva with stairs and made of adobe and wood. The stairs appear to lead to an open area on top that may be a plaza with a low wall surrounding it. The structure looks very much like an above ground kiva of the Pueblo Indians and there appears to be two long wood poles coming out of the top of the structure that may be a ladder. In the background, other adobe dwellings are visible along with a car. This negative was in Drawer 1 labeled "Indians."
