Durangoans circle Ute Indians below the Longfellow School, Durango, Colorado, circa September-October 1890 (according to writing on the frame). White people in wagons and carriages have circled tightly around a group of Ute individuals. Probably photographed from the upper story or roof of the school, looking west, on the east side of East 5th Avenue, between 9th and 10th Streets. A two-story wooden-frame house is in the center of the photo; behind it are many other houses. Possibly a photo by Jacob A. Boston, who was an active photographer in Durango during that time; it was found with other early Durango photos, one of which was stamped on the back by the J. A. Boston photo studio. Possibly the Indians were there to perform a Dog Dance.
