IMPROVED EMISSION FACTORS FOR FUGITIVE DUST FROM WESTERN SURFACE COAL MINING

SOURCES - PROJECT SUMMARY (1981).  33 pp.

Performing Organization Name and Address:

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Cincinnati, OH 45268.

Type of Report:  Project Summary

Abstract:

The report concludes conditions affecting fugitive dust probably vary somewhat

from mine to mine and thus relative amounts of dust produced by different

operations will vary greatly from mine to mine.  A ranking of the sources was

performed to determine which were significant particulate sources that warranted

sampling, based on average mine conditions.

Abstract:

Guide and audiovisual presentation are 1 part of a 3-phase effort (SURFACE

MINING AND THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT).  First 2 phases include production of

technical manual and 20 audiovisual presentations of 13 mining topics.  Phase 3

is being developed for IMCC and sponsored by EPA and DOI-Office of Surface

Mining.  Separate instruction guides with audiovisual presentations are being

developed for 6 topics:  Surface Mining Control & Reclamation Act-Overview;

Effects of Underground Mining; Hydrological Investigations; Reclamation and

Pollution Control (Arid and Semi-Arid Regions); Abandoned Mine Land; and

Blasting.
