DESIGN MANUAL FOR SEDIMENTATION CONTROL THROUGH SEDIMENTATION PONDS AND OTHER

PHYSICAL/CHEMICAL TREATMENT (1982). 148 pp.

Performing Organization Name and Address:

Simons, Li & Associates, Inc., Ft. Collins, CO 80522.

Type of Report:  Final Manual

Abstract:

Design manual developed to guide design engineer and/or operator in design and

maintenance of sediment ponds for the control of sediment from surface mine

operations.  Chap 1:  Introduction (sedimentation pond applications).  Chap 2:

Discussion of preliminary design considerations to sedimentation pond design.

Chap 3:  Design and methods for meeting effluent water quality regulations.

Chaps 4-5:  Various modifications to pond components and proper maintenance

measures.  The final chapter provide step-by-step procedure for design of

sedimentation ponds.  It should not be considered as the only method available

but rather used as a guide.

EVALUATION OF SEDIMENTATION POND DESIGN RELATIVE TO CAPACITY AND EFFLUENT

DISCHARGE (1979). 21 pp.

Performing Organization Name and Address:

D'Appolonia Consulting Engineers, Inc., Pittsburgh, PA 15235

Type of Report:  Final Report

Abstract:

Report provides assessment of impact relevant to multiple storm occurrences on

design requirements for sediment ponds for surface mine facilities.  The

assessment was performed by evaluating the capacity requirements of 3

representative surface mines in northern and southern Appalachian regions which

were used for study of cost impacts for discretionary alternatives for the

Regulations Analysis.  Table 1 describes these mines relative to data required

for sedimentation pond design.
