EFFECTS OF CONTROLLED OVERBURDEN PLACEMENT ON MINE SOIL PROPERTIES AND THE

GROWTH OF LOBLOLLY PINE (1984).  78 pp.

Type of Report:   Amended Final Report

Abstract:

Ultimate goal of successful revegetation efforts is establishment of a

permanent, self-sustaining plant community that supports postmining land use.

This, in turn, is dependent on establishment of efficient nutrient cycles within

the mine soil-plant system.  Major goal of this research effort over the next

several years will be careful documentation of the N, P and K cycles in these

systems.  This information, integrated with our findings regarding effects of

rock type and surface treatments on mine soil genesis and plant growth, will be

an invaluable tool for the improvement of reclamation success in Southern

Appalachia.

COST IMPACT OF DISCRETIONARY ALTERNATIVES - OSM [OFFICE OF SURFACE MINING]

PERMANENT REGULATIONS - 30 CFR CHAPTER VII-VOL II OF III (1980). 190 pp.

Performing Organization Name and Address:

Type of Report:   Final Report-Vol. II of III (Surface Mining Issues)

Abstract

Vol. II presents an analysis of each alternative considered in assessing

economic impact of compliance costs.  Vol. I presents an overall methodology and

discusses the development of representative mines.  Each alternative was

analyzed in detail for the requirements which would be imposed on each model

mine and would have to adjust its operations in some form to comply with the

alternatives.

Type of Report:   Final Report-Vol. III of III (Underground Mining).

Abstract:

Vol. II presents an analysis of each alternative considered in assessing the

economic impact of compliance costs.  Vol.  I:   Methodology and general

approach and development of model mines and economic analysis techniques.

Descriptions of model underground mines in Vol. I are repeated in Chapter 2.0.

Analysis of each policy is given in Chapter 3.0.  For completeness, all issues

are discussed in Chapter 3.0 even though these are not considered in detail.

Where issues apply to surface mines, it is noted with reference to Vol. II where

detailed analyses of surface mining are discussed.
