Type of Report:   Brief Description of SUMLARIS Program, Goals/History

Abstract:

SUMLARIS program is designed to develop and maintain a national reclamation

information system by capturing and computerizing data collected by state

regulatory agencies.  Program provides Federal and state agencies with a readily

accessible data base for making decisions and assessing environmental impacts in

surface coal mining areas.  Compilation and comparison of data from adjacent

states would allow     regional assessments and projections to be made.  Federal

Government will find data collected and made available through SUMLARIS efforts

to be used administratively or to serve research needs.
