STATISTICAL PLAN - EMISSION FACTORS AND CONTROL TECHNOLOGY FOR FUGITIVE DUST

FROM MINING SOURCES - 3RD DRAFT (1980). 23 pp.  (U.S. Environmental Protection

Agency, PEDCo Environmental, Inc., Kansas City MO)

Performing Organization Name and Address:

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Cincinnati OH 45268

Type of Report:  Third Draft-Statistical Plan

Abstract:

Report presents statistical plan to establish a number of additional sample

emission factors with desired precision.  Report discusses method for estimating

sample sizes required for measurement of the variability in emission rates from

each operation for which an emission factor is developed (e.g., haul roads,

draglines, scrapers, truck loading), the precision (margin or error) acceptable

for each emission factor, and confidence levels.

IMPROVED EMISSION FACTORS FOR FUGITIVE DUST FROM WESTERN SURFACE COAL MINING

SOURCES:  (VOL 1) - SAMPLING METHODOLOGY AND TEST RESULTS (1981).  217 pp. (U.S.

Environmental Protection Agency, Cincinnati OH, PEDCo Environmental. Inc.,

Kansas City MO)

Performing Organization Name and Address:

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Cincinnati OH 45268

Type of Report:  Vol 1-Sampling Methodology & Test Results

Abstract:

Report is related to sampling performed on 3 mines (1979-1980). Emission was

determined from drilling (overburden), blasting (coal & overburden), coal

loading, bulldozing (coal & overburden), dragline operations, haul trucks,

light- and medium-duty trucks, scrapers, graders, and wind erosion of exposed

areas (overburden & coal).  Primary sampling method was exposure profiling.  A

total of 265 tests were performed, and an extensive quality assurance procedure

was implemented internally for project and verified by audit.  A comparison of

emission factors is provided in this report.

IMPROVED EMISSION FACTORS FOR FUGITIVE DUST FROM WESTERN SURFACE COAL MINING

SOURCES - PROJECT SUMMARY (1981).  33 pp.

Performing Organization Name and Address:

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Cincinnati, OH 45268.

Type of Report:  Project Summary

Abstract:

The report concludes conditions affecting fugitive dust probably vary somewhat

from mine to mine and thus relative amounts of dust produced by different

operations will vary greatly from mine to mine.  A ranking of the sources was

performed to determine which were significant particulate sources that warranted

sampling, based on average mine conditions.
