Report: Excerpt: OSM Fill Shear Strength Project
Abstract:
Shear
box was designed and fabricated (Phase I/RD No. 94). Test fixture will
provide
data for OSM to establish regulations on shear strength parameter of
land
fill material. Field conditions were
simulated (Bureau of Mines mine roof
simulator).
Vertical load representing overburden and horizontal load producing
shear
was applied to fill material of various mixtures and conditions.
Sandstone
from Amherst Strip Mine No. 3 in Lundale WV was received for testing
under
Phase 2 of RD No. 4. Fill material was
used to perform 3 dry shear tests
of 100%
durable fill. Presently, OSM fill shear
strength program is on hold
pending
funding.
