Abstract:
Lignite
is primarily of Wilcox/Claiborne groups.
Average thickness in Wilcox is
about 5
ft but in Claiborne group is thinner.
Contains from 2-4% sulphur,
40-55%
moisture, 20-30% ash. Caloric value is
approximately 5000 BTU/lb. Based
on
survey of 2 areas, pasture/forest/cropland are dominant land features.
Considered
to have substantial amounts of fish/wildlife/prime farmland (Delta)
in and
around potential lignite mining areas.
Only commercialized lignite
utilization
option available is conventional combustion.
Options in
developmental
stages are gasification and liquefaction.
Summary and conclusions
are
presented.
