Local holdings overview: The Center of Southwest Studies has phone directories for Durango, Cortez and Southwestern Colorado for the years 1950-current, with some gaps, as noted in the itemized list below. The Center does not have [and would like to acquire them if they exist]: any pre-1950, and 1954, 1957, 1960, and 1961 phone directories for Durango and vicinity. The Durango vicinity directories in the collection were produced by The Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company (Mountain Bell, Grand Junction, Colo.), 1958-1983 (no 1978 directory was published, because the title was changed to the year ahead when the directory was produced that was revised to Nov. 27, 1978); by U S West Direct (Englewood, Colo.), with Mountain Bell Yellow Pages, 1984-1996; by U S West Dex (Englewood, Colo.), 1997 May-; by The Durango Herald and Riddle Directories, 1983-1992; and by Directory Plus (Durango, Colo.), 1993-ongoing.
