About narrator: Southern Ute and Navajo in ethnic background. He was a combat in Vietnam, with the First Cavalry with a helicopter unit. He talked about how it would be almost dreamlike to be on one of a series of helicopters headed toward streaks of light coming up from the jungle. He told the interviewer that his nickname "the Renegade" came when he and a buddy were in a disagreement with a couple of Marines in Vietnam and he threw his knife which flew end to end and stuck to the wall, making his friend say "you're a crazy Indian, you're a f------- renegade!" He is an avid motorcyclist and works as a counselor with Southern Ute teens.

About narrator: A Durango native, Mrs. Brennan was the second woman in history to serve as a La Plata County Commissioner (from Jan. 1985 until 1992) and the first to be re-elected for a second term. Prior to that, she had been vice chair and then chair of the La Plata County Democratic Party in the 1960s. According to Sally Morrissey's biographical sketch in the 2/2/1997 Durango Herald, the County budget was automated during her tenure, the new airport terminal was built, the courthouse addition was finished and the county jail was constructed. She was born in Durango in 1920 to Edward and Zipporah McDaniel and was married to Micky Brennan in 1942. She and her husband operated the merchant-owned Credit Bureau of Durango for 40 years until 1985 when they sold it. They also published and distributed a weekly bulletin service to businesses that was a compilation of legal activities recorded at the County Courthouse, a service she continued after Micky's death in 1994.
