Alden Hayes was a prominent southwestern archaeologist who spent most of
his career as a researcher for the National Park Service; he supervised or
worked on a number of major excavation and research projects.

More than 1,200 images, circa 1958-1975. Approximately half of them
document excavations at Gran Quivira in central New Mexico. Others pertain
to Mesa Verde National Park (especially the Wetherill Archaeological
Project), Chaco Canyon, Pecos National Historical Park, and Ute pictographs
in Mancos Canyon (Colo.).
