• Historical note: the Fort Lewis College Faculty Assembly was established by the State Board of Agriculture on Dec. 16, 1981.  It approved the constitution of the Academic Faculty on Dec. 9, 1981.  (The Board approved its prior constitutions and bylaws on Sept. 21, 1963 and subsequently.)  In 2004 the faculty moved to a Faculty Senate governance model and disbanded the Faculty Assembly.

• Historical note:  On Nov. 7, 1958 the State Board of Agriculture barred both husband and wife, or member of the immediate family of a college employee, may be employed by the college.  On April 18, 1964, the policy was revised to state that "It is the policy of the college that both husband and wife of a family may not be employed in permanent academic or professional capacities."  On Dec. 8, 1971, the Board revised its policy by deleting the preceding statement from the Faculty-Staff handbook."

• Historical note: this is the name of a defunct faculty/ staff organization that was formed in Oct. 1976; its Board of Directors sent a memo to all Fort Lewis College employees on Nov. 14, 1979 stating that "the difficulties of operating the College Club finally have grown to impossible dimensions.  The Club has lost money for years, but this problem has accelerated beyond our control. ... Thus, the College Club is closing, effective 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20.  By then our deficit will be approaching $1000.  Any contributions to help the Club will be welcome. ..."  According to Professor Bill Ramaley who sent the memo over to the Archives in March of 1998, "the club did rise again--over at President Berndt's old house (now Admissions) in the basement.  For about 2 years (maybe 1981-83?)"

• Historical note: formerly--until April, 1996--the Electronic Learning Task Force appointed by the President.  Its function was to promote Fort Lewis College progress in using technology in the instructional process.   In March of 2000 the President's Cabinet approved the disbanding of the Electronic Learning Committee and establishing a new College committee called the Instructional Technology Council.  The charge of the ITC is described on page 1 of the Summer 2000 issue of Plugged In.  See also the College Technology Planning Committee (Sub-group 19.VV).

Sub-group 19.XX     Administrative Assistants Council

• Historical note:   The Administrative Assistants Council was created in Fall 2002 by Carol Smith and Susie Young.   Originally formed for academic administrative assistants, the Council was expanded in Fall 2003 to include administrative support staff from nearly every college office/department.  The Council is currently coordinated by volunteer staff with Carol Smith as the Dean Liaison.  The Council conducted six programs in 2004-05, which were attended by a total of 97 employees representing 34 different departments.
  
  The mission of the Administrative Assistants Council is to provide a resource for information that assists administrative support staff in the performance of their daily obligations, responsibilities and functions. It is charged with providing training (i.e., WebOpus financial, Outlook, Banner), campus updates (i.e., recruitment, budget, travel procedures, textbook requisition) and office management skills (i.e., time management).
  
  As of the 2005-06 academic year, the Administrative Assistants Council was officially designated as a college committee.

• Historical note:   This committee was created in the mid-1990s to advise on the College's federally mandated compliance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act.  Its Chair and the location of its active files have alternated between the Anthropology Department and the Center of Southwest Studies.  See Series 18.B.1 for the printed transcriptions of the proceedings of three two-day group workshop sessions of the Affiliation Conference on Ancestral Peoples of the Four Corners Region conducted through a cooperative agreement between the National Park Service and Fort Lewis College on January 23-24, February 20-21, and April 17-18 of 1998.)
