Collection P 004:
Fort Lewis College photograph collection

Quantity:
Approximately 17,000 photographs; more specifically, 27 document cases and 1 oversize flat lidded box of photoprints (nearly all, black and white), and 10 card file boxes of 4x5" (and some 35 mm) black and white photonegatives, bulk years 1957-1961.  To view selected images from the collection, see http://swcenter.fortlewis.edu/inventory/FortLewisImages.htm

Arrangement scheme:
For the sake of efficiency and to better preserve the photographic material in the Fort Lewis College Archives, we have grouped all of the Fort Lewis College Archives photographs together in Collection P004.  The series numbers within Collection P 004 reflect the numbering of the records in the Archives (Collection M001).  Photoprints are arranged by predominate departmental subject.  Photoprints within each series are numbered in a single numerical sequence beginning with 1 in each series.  The following table shows those basic series, and links to the other records of that portion of the college's administrative structure.

Photonegatives:

This collection includes approximately four thousand black and white photonegatives (most of them are on 4 x 5" safety film; some of the negatives in Box 36 are on 35 mm strips of film ).  The images on negative #s 13,000 through 16,095 and from 16,397 on are fairly well identified (they came to the Archives in their original acidic envelopes, each of which contained at least some identifying information); the remainder of the negatives in Box 39 were found loose and unidentified.  The Center anticipates cataloging the identified negatives at the item level when resources permit (we envision this as a long-term multi-year project).
