(Collection M 001, Sub-group 7.D)

Brief history of the Fort Lewis College Development Office/ Fort Lewis College Foundation

The articles of incorporation for the earlier Endowment and Research Foundation of Fort Lewis Agricultural and Mechanical College, 1963 May 21, can be found in Series 7.D.10.   The Fort Lewis College Foundation was established with an initial gift of $18,700 from Mrs. Charles T. Mc Pherson of San Acacio, California, in late 1969.  The creation of the Foundation was proposed to the State Board of Agriculture in December of 1956 for the purpose of receiving gifts and disbursing funds for the betterment of the college.   Its articles of incorporation were reported to the Board on Dec. 11, 1956.  On April 7, 1972, the State Board of Agriculture approved the reorganization of the Foundation, with Fort Lewis College administrators no longer on the board of the Foundation  (Sources: State Board of Agriculture minutes, and Fort Lewis College Independent, Jan. 13, 1970, p. 1.)
